Our History
Founded in the Fall of 2005 by Mark T. Engelhardt, and singing its first Evensong service in January 2006, MagnificatBoston is dedicated to the glorification of God by singing the Office of Anglican Choral Evensong. The singers come primarily from parishes within the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts and beyond. All choristers are auditioned, and come with a wide variety of both amateur and professional vocal /choral experience. Participation in MagnificatBoston is voluntary.
Mr. Engelhardt founded the ensemble of approximately 25 singers at the conclusion of his 16-year tenure as Organist and Director of Music for the Episcopal Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston, Massachusetts and Music Consultant for the Episcopal Diocese of Massachusetts.
In September 2007, Michael Salvatore joined Mr. Engelhardt as Associate Director. Mr. Salvatore is Director of Music at Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Wakefield, Massachusetts, and also Arts Department Chair, Director of Choral Music, and Music Coordinator and Instructor at the Fenn School in Concord, Massachusetts.
In January 2013, Mr. Engelhardt became Organist/Choirmaster at St. Peter's by-the-Sea Episcopal Church in NY, and Mr. Salvatore stayed on with MagnificatBoston as Interim Music Director.
Louise Mundinger, organist and choral music teacher at Milton Academy in Massachusetts, joined MagnificatBoston as our new Music Director in June 2014.
